Race Report: Wayt Victorious in QLD Enduro, 2nd in QLD Closed-Course
On March 26th 2017, the reigning Australian Champion Mitch Wayt #16 won the hotly-contested Pro-Stock Endurance Class, and claimed 2nd in Pro-Stock Closed-Course Class at the 2017 QPWC Summer Titles.
A strong showing of seven 2017 GP1800 WaveRunners lined the Redcliffe beach in Queensland, alongside the fleet of competing watercraft.
In the Pro-Stock Runabout Closed-Course class, Mitch Wayt #16 fought hard against the fellow GP1800 rider Shane Stuart #476, claiming a podium in each moto, to finish 2nd overall.
In all three motos Stuart's GP1800 had the advantage off the line, with a blisteringly quick start and higher top-speed edging-out Wayt by the first corner, forcing the reigning-champ to fall into line behind Stuart. Each moto was an exhilarating battle between the top four riders; the GP1800 of Mitch Wayt #16, the GP1800 of Shane Stuart #476, the GP1800 of David Knott #157 and the 2016 Showroom-Stock Champion-winning FZS of Mitch Casey #94. Despite Wayt's best efforts to overtake Stuart through the tighter corners of the alternative split, both GP1800s were evenly matched in the corners, and Stuart took top honours on the day.

In Pro-Stock Runabout Endurance Class, Mitch Wayt #16A battled his way to an impressive win in the 30 minute-long Enduro.
Off-the-line, the Le Mans style start saw Mitch Wayt #16A slot into 2nd place, fighting hard with Mitch Casey #94 to take the lead, before the race was red-flagged due to wildlife sighting. With the track deemed clear by the QPWC safety marshals and the mandatory 30-minute break served, the Enduro was restarted.
With the race restarted, Wayt successfully muscled his way onto the front row, eventually finishing the Pro-Stock Enduro in a comfortable 1st place.
- Pro-Stock Class Runabout Endurance = 1st overall
Yamaha Motor Australia would like to congratulate Mitch Wayt #16 on his impressive performance at the 2017 QPWC Summer Titles.
Yamaha would also like to thank the Volunteers, Race-Marshals, Club Members and competitors for their time.
